CBS 810 Sports Radio in Orlando, Florida Interview

Last night I was interviewed about my book “THE NFL’S MR. EINSTEIN” on the BAUMANN–BIG JOE SHOW on CBS 810 Sports Radio in Orlando, Florida. It was a real pleasure talking to Dave Baumann and Joe Ellicott about Hugh L. Ray and my book.

Let me tell you these guys know their football. They are very knowledgeable and their questions were great. I felt like I was talking to two old friends — they couldn’t have made me feel more welcome or comfortable. Their show rocks and is a MUST LISTEN. Thanks Dave and Big Joe !!!

HUGH RAY WROTE RULES THAT SAVED LIVES

Football in the 1920’s was racked by player deaths and serious injuries. Because of this the High Schools hired Ray to write a new set of rules. By the end of 1931 season the Associated Press reported “50 FOOTBALL RELATED DEATHS.” In 1932 Ray issued the first modern Rules Book and Safety Rules and shared them with the NCAA. By 1943 there were “TEN DEATHS IN FOOTBALL.” At the end of 1945 season Ray’s rules had cut serious injury by over 70% at the high school level and increased scoring by over 100% for the NFL.

The legendary George Halas, owner and coach of the Chicago Bears said ” Shorty Ray. .. the rules genius rewrote the Rules for the National Football League.”
